Using menus

Menu shortcuts

When a menu is open, you can select an item from it without using the mouse by typing the underlined letter (mnemonic) in the item's name. For example, you could type O to select Open from the following menu:

Some frequently used menu items can be selected from the keyboard without opening the menu. Such items are identified by a combination of keys (accelerators) to the right of the menu item. For example, you could enter: <Ctrl>N to select New from the menu above.


NOTE: Using the shortcut methods on the main Desktop menus requires Desktop focus, which is indicated by a border around the Desktop. To get Desktop focus, simultaneously press <Shift><Alt>F2.
