Finding a specific file

To search for a specified file or directory:

  1. Select Find from the File menu. Enter the name of the file for which you want to search in the dialog box. Click on OK.

  2. Enter the pathname from which you want the search to begin in the second dialog box. Click on OK.

  3. The file icons are displayed in a temporary desktop window.

NOTE: If you select Find from a desktop menu, the default search is from your home directory downwards. The default search from a directory menu is from that directory downwards.

You can configure your Desktop preferences so that the file or directory is listed in a shell window or so that the file or directory is displayed in its directory window. For information on configuring your preferences, see the Graphical Environment Guide .
