Locking your display

Suppose you are writing a document, and you need to go into another room for a few minutes. You don't want to have to log out completely, but you do want to ensure that your computer system is secure. By activating Lock, you can leave your Desktop in its current state and prevent other users from accessing your computer system when you are away from your desk.

To lock your display, double-click on the Lock icon, which is in Accessories by default. The screen blanks, and you see small rotating objects moving around the screen.

To unlock your display, move the mouse or type on the keyboard. Enter your password in the dialog box that appears. The display is the same as before you activated Lock.

In addition, you can configure Lock so that a screen saver (which means the screen blanks) runs automatically if there is neither mouse nor keyboard input for ten minutes. To choose this option, select Non Locking Screen Saver from the icon menu. To restore the display, move the mouse or type on the keyboard.

Alternatively, you can configure Lock so that it is activated automatically if there is neither mouse nor keyboard input for ten minutes. To choose this option, select Locking Screen Saver from the icon menu. To restore the display, move the mouse or type on the keyboard.

You can also change the appearance of the screen when it is locked. To do so, select Set Default from the icon menu. Enter the number corresponding to the desired style (Icons, Worlds, or Blank).
