Troubleshooting and tuning NFS

Checking the NFS daemons

For NFS to operate properly and efficiently, the NFS daemons mountd, nfsd and biod must be running. To check the status of these daemons, use nfsping. The syntax of nfsping is:

nfsping [-a|-s|-c|-o name]

where name is the NFS daemon name (mountd, nfsd, or biod). This command returns:

   nfsping: name is running
if name is running. For more information about nfsping, see nfsping(NC). For more information on the role of these daemons during automatic and explicit mount operations, refer to ``The automatic mount process'' and ``The explicit mount process''.
