Configuring the Domain Name Service (DNS)

Registering a domain name

If you intend to connect to a domain server outside of your local network, you must register with the appropriate organization to avoid name space collision. For information about applying for and registering a domain name, see the InterNIC's (Internet's Network Information Center) web site at www.internic.net.

If the domain you are creating is a subdomain of an existing domain, instead contact the responsible person listed in the SOA record for the existing domain. For more information on obtaining SOA records, see ``Using nslookup''.
