After the installation

After completing the SCO OpenServer installation, it is recommended that you read and follow these instructions:

• make a copy of the installed kernel

• create emergency recovery media (see ``Creating and using emergency recovery media'' in the online documentation)

• register your SCO OpenServer software

• keep a copy of the completed Installation checklists with the system log to help system administration, troubleshooting, and future upgrades go more smoothly

There are also a number of system administration tasks that you may need to perform to set up and configure the system to meet your needs:

• For an overview of system administration, including information on using SCOadmin, see ``Administering SCO OpenServer''.

• Install and configure other SCO OpenServer products, including SCO OpenServer Optional Services and the various development environments for SCO OpenServer. See ``Installing and managing software components''.

• License and register additional SCO OpenServer products. See ``Licensing and registering SCO OpenServer products''.

• Start and stop SCO OpenServer and modify and troubleshoot the startup process. See ``Starting and stopping the system''.

• Customize the Graphical Environment. See ``Customizing startup of the Graphical Environment''.

• Specify a desktop environment to use. See ``Running a different desktop environment''.

• Configure and use DocView. See ``Using DocView''.

• Modify the locale settings for the system. See ``Specifying the locale''.

• Configure new and existing system hardware, including hard disks, host, graphics, and network adapters, and other peripherals. See ``Hardware configuration overview''.

• If you selected to use DHCP, check the DHCP and Address Allocation Servers on your network to see if an IP address is allocated to your machine as expected. See ``Verifying DHCP and Address Allocation Servers''.

• Troubleshoot problems with the system, including corrupted filesystems and system crashes. See ``Troubleshooting system-level problems''.

• Configure the system to support system administration across the network using SCOadmin. See ``Administering other systems with SCOadmin''.
