Testing and debugging MDI drivers

Running manual tests

After the driver successfuly passes all automated MDI test suites for the appropriate platform, you should run additional manual tests on the system.

To do this, configure your card under TCP/IP on the test machine, put the machine into init state 3, and execute the following command:

   ping -s <remote_machine>
Do the following

Pull cable
While the ping is running, pull the cable out of the card. Verify that the keyboard is not locked up and that the system does not panic, although the ping response should stop. Reinsert the cable and verify that traffic resumes.

Panic and reboot the system
Verify that the system reboots with the driver configured after a system panic by forcing a panic while the ping is running. After the system reboots, run something that stresses the system such as the plt tests to ensure that the system integrity is preserved.

Interrupt and restore power
Verify that the system reboots with the driver configured after a power outage. While the ping is running, shut off power to the system. After restoring power and rebooting the system, run the plt tests to verify that system integrity is preserved.
